Climate change - Making a Chart

The climate is changing…. ARE YOU?

Greenhouse gases especially carbon dioxide are produced when burning fossil fuels.  Greenhouse gases make our planet get warmer.

Have a shower instead of a bath.  Save water and money.

 Eat locally grown products !

Use a cloth a bag instead of a plastic bag.

Buy smartly. Remember the 4 Rs:  Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. Use renewable energy such as wind and solar energy.  Making electricity this way is cleaner beacuse you are not producing greenhouses gases.

Separate unwanted waste and take it to a bring-in-site near you.  Because of climate change, rainfall is less but heavier causing floods and damaging fields.

What is climate change?

greenhouse Climate change is caused by increased leavs of greenhouse gases in our atmosphere. The  gases trap heat by  forming a blanket around the earth-like the glass of a greenhouse. As they build up ,the planet’s greenhouse21temperature rises . This causes more unpredictable and sometimes stormy weather . These weather changes are stressful on animals, plants, people and the environment.

Rain Forest

Tropical rainforests are forests with tall trees, warm climate, and lots of rain. In some rainforests it rains more than one inch every day!

Rainforests are found in Africa, Asia, Australia, Central and South America.

The largest rainforest in the world is the Amazon rainforest.

Rainforests are found in the tropics, the region between the Tropic of Capricorn and Tropic of Cancer. In this region the sun is very strong and shines about the same amount of time every day all year long making the climate warm and stable.

world1

Many countries have rainforests. The countries with the largest rainforests are:

  1. Brazil
  2. Congo
  3. Indonesia
  4. Peru
  5. Bolivia
  6. Angola
  7. Venezuela
  8. Papua New Guinea
  9. Mexico
  10. India

 WHY ARE RAINFORESTS IMPORTANT?

Rainforests:

  • give a home to many plants and animals;
  • help to keep the world’s climate better
  • protect against flood (gharghar) and drought (nixfa kbira)
  • provide medicines and foods
  • are a home for tribal people and
  • are an interesting place to visit

WHY ARE RAINFORESTS BEING DESTROYED?

Every year an area of rainforest larger than Malta is cut down and destroyed. The plants and animals that used to live in these forests die or have to find a new forest to call their home. Why are rainforests being destroyed?

Humans destroy rainforests for:

  • wood
  • farm land
  • land for poor farmers who don’t have anywhere else to live
  • grazing land for cattle and
  • building roads

rainforest-destroyedHOW CAN WE SAVE RAINFORESTS?

Rainforests are disappearing very quickly. The good news is that there are a lot of people who want to save rainforests. The bad news is saving rainforests is not going to be easy.

Some steps for saving rainforests is to remember the word TREES:

  •  Teach others about the importance of the environment and how they can help save rainforests.
  • Restore damaged rainforests by planting trees where forests have been cut down.
  • Encourage people to live in a way that doesn’t hurt the environment
  • Establish parks to protect rainforests and wildlife
  • Support companies to work in ways that do not damage the environment
  • rainforest1

We can also help!! We can teach others about the environment and encourage them to care about our world!
