Our Last Day in Sweden

After having a good breakfast we went out and played on the swings. After a while a snow storm started. We clapped and cheered. Faster than lightening a minibus came and took us to see the elks. Did you know that the elks change their antlers once a year and grow new ones. The tame elks were given the names of Victoria after princess Victoria and her boyfriend Donald who is from Ockelbo.

After having lunch in Ockelbo, we took a train to Gavle and we finished our shopping. Then we returned to the hostel and packed our bags.

Early the next morning we left Ockelbo and took a minibus following a train and another bus to the airport Kavska. We flew by RyanAir back to Malta. We took a bus to the ferry and all our parents were waiting for us at the harbour. We were glad to be back home but sorry that our adventure was over.

Ir-raħal tan-Nadur jinsab fuq l-aħħar għolja fuq il-Lvant t’Għawdex u tista’ tasal għalih sew minn Victoria kif ukoll dirett mill-Imġarr. Il-knisja parrokkjali dedikata lill-qaddisin appostli Pietru u Pawlu taħkem fuq il-bini kollu Naduri u ħafna huma tal-fehma li din il-binja hi fost l-aqwa xogħlijiet fuq stil barokk li wieħed jista’ jsib f’dawn il-gżejjer. Il-pjazza ta’ quddiem il-knisja bis-salib antik tal-ġebel, hi fil-fatt iċ-ċentru tar-raħal. In-Nadur għandu wkoll Mużew Marittimu b’ ġabra mdaqqsa ta’ oġġetti konnessi mat-tbaħħir. Il-Mużew Marittimu Kelinu Grima fih il-qofol tat-tradizzjoni marittima marbuta sew ma’ dan ir-raħal.

In-Nadur huwa wkoll magħruf għas-seher tal-veduti tal-widien kif ukoll ghat-trankwillita’ tal-bajjiet moħbija tiegħu bħal dawk ta’ San Blas u Daħlet Qorrot. Bajja ferm popolari hi bla dubju ta’ xejn il-bajja tar-Ramla l-Ħamra, li tista’ tasal għaliha wkoll minn Nadur. Daħlet Qorrot hi bajja zgħira maħbuba ferm mis-sajjieda lokali. Il-bajja fiha kmamar kkulriti maqtugħa fil-blat, fejn is-sajjieda jkennu d-dgħajjes tagħhom fix-xitwa. Fihom iqattghu ukoll xi siegħa mal-familji tagħhom għall-kwiet matul l-għaxijiet sajfin. Daħlet Qorrot tabilħaqq tiġbed lil dawk li jħobbu ‘l-kwiet, jew inkella ‘l dawk li jintefgħu jgħumu sabiex jiffriskaw xi ftit. It-Torri ta’ Sopu jinsab fil-għoli bejn Daħlet Qorrot u San Blas, u kif jgħid il-motto tar-raħal, hu l-għassies perpetwu tal-gżira Għawdxija. Fin-Nadur hemm torri iehor, it-Torri ta’ Kenuna. Dan inbena fl-1848 u serva bħala torri ta’ komunikazzjoni għat-telegrafu. Biswit dan it-Torri tħejja ġnien Malti li hu l-għaxqa kemm tan-Nadurin kif ukoll ta’ kull min iżuru. Minn fuq dan il-ġnien wieħed jista’ jitpaxxa bil-veduta mill-isbaħ fuq il-gżejjer Maltin.

Il-festa tal-qaddisin patruni tar-raħal San Pietru u San Pawl, jew inkella l-Imnarja, tiġi ċċelebrata nhar jumha, jigifieri fid-29 ta’ Ġunju. L-isem tal-festa tnissel mill-kelma luminarja, li tfisser mixgħela, u għandha rabtiet antiki mat-tradizzjoni folkloristika tal-gżira.

IN-NADUR

Wieħed mill-irħula sbieħ li għandna fil-gżira t’Għawdex huwa ċertament ir-raħal tan-Nadur.  Dan ir-raħal jinsab fil-Lvant tal-gżira u jinsab fil-għoli bħall-irħula taż-Żebbuġ u tax-Xagħra. Dawn it-tliet għoljiet huma rappreżentati fl-emblema t’Għawdex.

Fil-qalba tiegħu, togħla setgħana u mponenti l-Bażilika Kolleġjata ta’ San Pietru u San Pawl, ċertament waħda mill-isbaħ knejjes ta’ dawn il-gżejjer.  Fil-knisja Parrokkjali tar-raħal wieħed isib l-istatwa titulari li turi liż-żewġ qaddisin appostli, liema statwa tinħareġ proċessjonalment fid-29 ta’ Ġunju u tiddawwar mat-toroq tar-raħal akkumpanjata mill-banda “Imnarja” tan-Nadur.  In-Nadur kien sar paroċċa fis-sena 1688.

In-Nadur huwa wieħed mill-akbar u mill-isbaħ irħula ġewwa Għawdex.  Il-veduti sbieħ li wieħed jista’ jgawdi minn inħawi differenti ta’ dan ir-raħal bħal ma huma l-inħawi u l-bajjiet ta’ Daħlet Qorrot  u San Blas, l-Imġarr u l-gżira ta’ Malta u l-fliegu ta’ bejn iż-żewġ gżejjer jagħmlu min-Nadur l-aktar raħal pittoresk t’ Għawdex.

Waħda mill-bajjiet sbieħ li wieħed jista’ jgħaddi għaliha min-Nadur hija l-bajja sabiħa tar-Ramla.  Din il-bajja tinsab bejn l-irħula tan-Nadur u tax-Xagħra, l-akbar żewġ irħula f’Għawdex.  F’din il-bajja nstabu fdalijiet ta’ Villa Rumana.  Sabiex ma ssirilhiex ħsara, il-villa kienet ġiet mgħottija bir-ramel kif fil-fatt għadha sa llum.  Fil-baħar ukoll jidher il-pedament ta’ ħajt li kien inbena kontra l-furbani.

Ir-raħal tan-Nadur għandu bħala motto tiegħu l-kelma Latina  “Vigilant” li tfisser Għassies. Minħabba l-pożizzjoni tiegħu fil-għoli qisu sultan fuq il-Lvant tal-gżira, tistħajjlu għassies fuq ix-xatt tal-Imġarr u l-inħawi l-oħra tal-madwar.  Hekk sa minn dejjem kien u hekk għadu sa llum, raħal mill-isbaħ li jilqa’ lill-barrani hekk kif imidd riġlejh fuq l-art Għawdxija.

Our visit to Sweden

After breakfast we went to Gavle by train. There we visited a train museum where we saw a lot of old trains which had coal engines. One of the trains was used to carry the King in past times. We also had the opportunity to ride in some of the carriages. From the museum we bought some souvenirs.

After having lunch at Gavle we spent an hour of shopping.

When we got back to the Hotel, a teacher from England named Joan helped us build a snowman in front of the hotel. We had dinner with the teachers from the Comenius Project. We enjoyed ourselves a lot.

Our second day in Sweden

After a good nights sleep we had breakfast and joined the children from Ockelbo School on a trip by bus to the slopes. The scenery was spectacular with lots of trees with snow on their branches. We spent four hours of fun in the snow. We built a snowman and we made snow angels. We rolled down the slopes and best of all were the snowball fights we had. We ate bar-b-q sausages. That afternoon around 4.00pm we went swimming in the hot baths and at 7.00pm we ate dinner out. When we went back to the hotel, we watched a movie and after that we went into our rooms and had a good nights sleep.

Our Visit to Sweden - Day 1

A Visit to Ockelbo, Sweden

Our day started very early on the 20th of January. At 5.30am we all had to be at Mgarr to catch the 6.00am ferry. Everyone was dressed in warm hats and jackets and boots prepared for the snow. We were very excited to finally be on our way on our much awaited trip to Sweden. We were three girls and two boys accompanied by our teachers Mrs. Carmen Mifsud and Mr. Mark Azzopardi.

We had fun on the ferry and on the minibus, all the way to the airport. We took the AirMalta flight to Munich, Germany. It was snowing there and we could not wait to get in the snow in Sweden then.

We had lunch at the airport and then hopped on another flight, this time on a smaller Lufthansa plane. When we arrived in Arlanda, Stockholm it was already dark and freezing cold outside, but inside it was very bright and warm.

We had to run very fast to try to catch the train which was running under the airport, but when we got to the platform we realized that we still had to wait anyway! All this time we were dragging our little suitcases behind us! While we waited, we played with the revolving door but not for long because people started getting stuck in it! We caught two trains to get to Ockelbo.

In Ockelbo, two teachers came to pick us up and they drove us in their cars to Ockelbo Guesthouse. It was all in white, even our bedrooms. It looked more like a hotel. We didn’t unpack because we were too tired! It was a very long travelling day and by 10.30pm we were all in bed. It didn’t take us long to fall asleep.

We could not wait for our first day in Sweden! Read about the rest of our adventure from my friends.
